Types of Storage Units You May Need During an Apartment Renovation

An apartment renovation isn't just about improving your apartment's aesthetics and performance. It's also about keeping your or your tenants' items safe during the process. To ensure the safety of these valuables, you may need to choose the right storage units for items that can't be kept in the rooms during renovation.

Some storage units work better than others for renovation projects, depending on the type of items you want to store. Below, we'll examine a few types of storage units to consider for your belongings during an apartment renovation project.

Climate-Controlled Storage Units

If you have temperature-sensitive items that need to be stored safely during an apartment renovation, you're better off working with climate-controlled storage units than regular ones. These items don't have to be medical or food-related, but anything that can't handle extreme temperature or humidity. It could include any material that can warp, crack, or deteriorate when exposed to fluctuating weather conditions.

Climate-controlled units are often kept at a stable temperature, usually between 500F and 900F, while also maintained at a controlled humidity level. If you have any items that could be damaged by heat, moisture, or cold, such as furniture, consider storing them in a climate-controlled unit for optimal protection.

It's essential to consider the duration of the renovation project to determine if it's worth paying extra for climate-controlled storage. The longer the project lasts, the longer your items remain exposed to temperature fluctuations. You can forgo these units if you're only storing items for a few days, but you'll definitely need them for projects that span weeks and months.

Outdoor Storage Units

Whenever you hear about storage units, you most likely picture them outside the house or office, since most are located outside. Outdoor storage units are ideal for keeping your belongings safe and out of the way during an apartment renovation. They are convenient storage solutions that keep you away from the chaos of renovation, allowing you to drive up to the unit and load or unload at your convenience.

However, these units aren't always perfect for temperature-sensitive materials and might be less secure than interior units. These units are ideal for storing bulky items that need to be kept out of the way to create room for seamless renovations. Small, medium, and big outdoor storage units are among the several sizes available to you.

Indoor Storage Units

Indoor or interior storage units are located within a building and are usually restricted to authorized personnel only. This interior location and access restrictions make these units among the most secure you could ever find. They're perfect for storing valuable items, such as jewelry, certificates, and precious vases, that can't be left in your home during an apartment renovation.

When choosing indoor storage unit options, consider those with access features, such as wide-access elevators, to simplify the movement of items in and out of the unit. Just like the outdoor units, these units aren't climate-controlled and are not ideal for temperature-sensitive materials. 0They also require more effort to pack or unpack, making them ideal only for easy-to-pack items that won't take up too much space.

Storage Lockers

When you have a few personal items that don't fit in a full-sized storage unit, a storage locker offers just the right amount of space. These lockers are valued for their compact design and affordability, making it easy to store smaller, valuable items safely and securely. Typically, you'll find storage lockers stacked inside a facility with restricted access to authorized customers or personnel.

If you're allocated a storage locker stacked high above ground level, you'll need a step ladder to access your unit whenever you visit. Only store items that you won't need frequently to minimize the stress of climbing up the ladder now and again for access.

Wine Storage

If you’re a vinophile, you likely have a collection of your favorite bottles of wine stacked up in your home's wine cabinet. When it's time for renovation, you need a temporary home for your wine, and the best place to store it is a rented wine storage facility. These facilities provide the ideal storage conditions for wine, ensuring it ages properly, even when stored away from your usual wine cabinet.

Your apartment renovation doesn’t have to be complicated, especially when it comes to securing extra storage space. With the above storage unit options, you can securely store your valuables during a renovation project, depending on what you wish to store and for how long.
