Many of East Colfax's single-family houses date to the neighborhood's postwar building wave, especially 1949 through 1954. When two homes look similar in photos, compare when the roof, electrical, plumbing, and heating or cooling systems were updated. Ask whether additions or converted spaces were permitted. A newer kitchen is useful, but it does not answer those questions.
Neighborhood-serving shops and services are concentrated along Colfax Avenue, with smaller shopping nodes on 11th Avenue. Map the errands and routes you expect to use from the specific home, then look at its driveway or alley access, on-street parking, and the walking route to nearby businesses. Those checks will tell you more than the neighborhood name about whether the location fits your routine.
