Breathe Easier: Ways To Improve Indoor Air Quality -303-955-4220

As the cold weather rolls into many parts of the world, families will spend more time indoors. If true, you’ll want to check your indoor air quality. Poor indoor air quality can cause many symptoms and make you feel sick. To ensure your home is ready to help your family stay comfy this winter, read up on these ways to improve indoor air quality.

Change Your Air Filter

One of the easiest ways to maintain clean air in your home is to swap out your air filters regularly. Try to keep a schedule for how often you change these out. Many homeowners must remember to change their filters and go too long without changing them. This is a surefire cause of poor air quality. If you make a habit of changing out your home’s air filters every three to four months, the easier it will be to remember.

Clean Your Rugs and Carpets

Rugs, carpets, and other natural fibers have a nasty habit of trapping dust and allergens. Make sure to vacuum your rugs and carpeting regularly. Establish a weekly vacuuming routine for carpets and rugs—although you could clean them even more frequently if you have pets that shed. If your carpet still seems to hold dirt and allergens after you vacuum it, try washing and scrubbing it thoroughly. Wash your carpet about once a year for best results.

Monitor Your Home’s Humidity

A high indoor humidity level is another common cause of poor air quality. Humidity often leads to moisture condensation on the surfaces of your home. Under the right conditions, this moisture buildup can lead to mold growth, sending mold spores throughout your home. Indoor mold can cause uncomfortable symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, and wheezing, so you want to prevent it as much as possible. Use a dehumidifier to pull this excess moisture from the air and avoid mold growth in the first place.

Don’t let poor indoor air conditions dampen your family time indoors this season. You’ll be able to breathe easier this winter knowing you’re prepared with these ways to improve indoor air quality.
