Brighton property tax search: Adams County first, Weld for a few

A Brighton property tax search usually starts with the Adams County Assessor, because the Adams County Government Center is in Brighton and most of the city is in Adams County. Part of Brighton reaches into Weld County, though, and those homes have a different assessor, a different county levy and a lower base rate. Then there are the metro districts: roughly a third of Brighton's land is inside one, and they can add 35 to 76 mills. Here is how to find the real numbers for a Brighton, CO address. How a Brighton bill is figured

Step 1

The county values the home

Adams and Weld both valued homes in 2025 using sales through June 30, 2024. The value carries into 2026; the next reappraisal is 2027.

Step 2

School assessed value

7.05% of actual value, times the 27J school levy.

Step 3

Everything else

6.25% of actual value for 2025, or 6.8% after taking 10% off the first $700,000 for 2026, times the county, city, fire, library and metro levies.

Step 4

Add and pay a year later

One mill is $1 per $1,000 of assessed value. The 2025 tax is billed in January 2026.

Appeals and due dates

Both counties mail notices of value by May 1 and take real property appeals from May 1 to June 8. Adams County accepts appeals by mail, email, fax, in person or online, and anyone appealing for an owner needs a notarized authorization letter. Adams mails its decisions by August 15, with appeals to the County Board of Equalization due September 15. 2026 was an off year, so the next full notice comes in 2027.

Adams County taxes are due in halves by February 28 and June 15, or in full by April 30. Late payments carry interest of 1% a month.
